Types of Marriage Registration –
Important Points
Special Marriage (wedding will take place in future) –
This is called registered marriage or court marriage. In this type of marriage, parties should inform the registration department and give notice at least one month prior to the desired date of marriage registration. Notice can be given online without visiting the registration office but for actual registration and getting marriage certificate parties will need to visit the office.
Form 16 Marriage (parties are already married) –
Form 16 is the name of the “form” which is used in case parties are already married and want to get it registered for the certificate.
The parties intending to solemnize a marriage under Special Marriage Act or get it registered by using form 16 have to furnish notice/application to the concern Marriage Officer, before 30 days of the intended marriage or registration. The notice then gets published on the online Notice Board.
The filling of notice/application for the registration of marriage under the Special Marriage Act or Form 16 Marriage can be done online without visiting the Marriage Registration Office. This facility is provided by the Department of Registration and Stamps, Maharashtra.
By using this facility citizen can file the 30 days prior Notice/application for intending marriage from anywhere and any time. After the notice period served citizen have to visit the Registration office for the admission process.

- Visiting Registration Office for Solemnization/Registration of Marriage.

Information required from Bride and Bridegroom –

- Date of Birth,
- Aadhaar Card Number,
- Occupation,
- Marital Status (UnMarried, Widower, Divorcee),
- Present & Permanent Address.

Age Proof Document, like –
Birth Certificate OR Bonafide OR SSC Exam Certificate OR SSC School Leaving Certificate OR Passport OR Civil Surgeon Certificate, etc.
Residence Proof Documents, like –
Election Card OR Passport OR Company Residential Proof OR Society Certificate OR Electricity Bill OR Driving Licence OR Aadhar Card OR Leave & License (Registered), etc.
Wedding Card if marriage is already taking place –
If marriage is already taking place then a Wedding Card is required or in case if it is not available then parties case submit the declaration form stating that they are already married.
Required Witness Details ( at least three witnesses are required)

Note: the same witnesses will be required to visit the Registration office at the time of Solemnization/Registration of the Marriage.
